The Lifters play an infectious brew of Rock & Soul, rooted in the Mid-Atlantic sounds of rock, blues, country, go-go, funk, and punk. Their songs reflect the hopes and dreams of 21st Century Americana, about dreams gone sideways, love, loss, and escape from the chains that bind all of us…
The Lifters have been delivering high-energy performances for over 10 years. Their first release, “Ride with Me,” was a critical success, and moved the band forward. Now they are ready to bring out the new album, “Tonight,” this time delving deeper into the pain and longing of modern life as well as the themes of newfound love and connection.
The Lifters are:
Jon Steinman Guitar, Vocals and Songwriting
Jon Steinman has a mission and a vision. He has played live music for 80% of his life and is finding new inspiration with the Lifters. Steinman is the voice, both figuratively and literally, and the songwriter of the band. After fronting “Jonny & the Stingrays” for over 20 years, Steinman founded the Lifters in 2014 along with Tony Brown.
Tony Brown Drums, Percussion
Tony Brown is always the best-dressed man in the room. Tony brings his deep belief and soul to the band. His groove is righteous, his heart is huge. Well known in music circles throughout the Mid-Atlantic area, Tony currently performs with a variety of bands. His talents are shared with gospel groups Derrick “Doc” Pearson & Covenant and Spiritual Principles, as well as the neo-soul band, Copper Rose & Bone.
Jim “Cookie” Cooke Fender Bass Guitar, Vocals
Cookie is the backbone of the Lifters. His “in the pocket” playing is the perfect complement to Tony’s explosive funkiness. Cookie has played in venues spanning the globe, and his solid playing provides the foundation to the Lifters’ sound.
Dave Gorozdos Keyboards, Vocals
Dave has become an integral part of the Lifters’ stew. A “monster” of the 88s, he and Steinman have a relationship that spans 30 years. They share an ever-changing non-verbal musical conversation. Dave also performs with; D’Vibe & Conga, Dirty Soul, The Jill Fulton Bandl, Reggie Right Eye, and The Missing Pieces and Carly Harvey.
Alan Day
Guitar
Alan is the newest member of the band. He brings many years of playing and production experience to the Lifters. He has played with The Teresa Gunn Group and Redline, as well as recording with local Icon Eva Cassidy.
